ABOUT INGRID FORBREGD

Ingrid Forbregd (b. 1977) is a Norwegian artist based in Lillehammer, Norway. She paints abstract and intuitive works, using colour, light, contrast and texture as a starting point for exploring emotions, moods and human experiences.

She has been painting actively since 2017, and what began as a creative exploration has gradually developed into a personal artistic practice. Today, she works on large canvases, creating expressions that move between the powerful and the quiet, the light and the dark.

Exhibited in New York and Paris

In 2026, her work was exhibited in both New York and Paris. Taking part in international art projects has brought her work to new audiences, while the starting point remains the same: a desire to create paintings that resonate, spark curiosity and leave room for the viewer’s own experiences.

THE PROCESS

Ingrid works intuitively, allowing her paintings to evolve layer by layer. She often works on several paintings at once, letting colours, shapes and textures find their place through a process in which both direction and expression can change along the way.

Painting is a space for calm, freedom and exploration. She begins without always knowing where the work will lead, and finds that the most interesting expressions often emerge when she allows room for the unexpected.

THE ARTWORKS

Ingrid’s paintings are abstract, yet some contain subtle hints of landscapes, nature and recognisable forms. She is particularly drawn to light, the interplay of colours and contrasts – and to how small changes in colour and texture can shape the experience of a painting.

Nature, light and the horizon are recurring sources of inspiration. The lived experiences, emotions and stories of people also find their way into her work.

She paints with acrylics on canvas, often in large formats. Her paintings do not invite a single, definitive interpretation, but leave room for each person to experience them in their own way.

For Ingrid, art is about more than what we see. It is also about what we feel – and everything that can be difficult to put into words.
