ROM – about feeling part of something bigger

Have you ever stood beneath a star-filled sky and felt both small and part of something much bigger at the same time?
I did, many times during the winter when ROM was painted.
I was chasing the Northern Lights.
Several evenings, I drove up into the mountains, far away from the lights of the city, and stood there alone in the silence, looking up at the night sky.
And standing there beneath the Northern Lights, something shifted in my perspective. The universe suddenly felt much closer. I remember simply looking up at the stars. At the Northern Lights. At the vastness of it all.
And at the same time, I felt a strange sense of closeness. As if everything was connected somehow. I felt what it was like to be a small part of something bigger.
That was the feeling I carried with me when I painted ROM.
Not a specific place or a particular landscape. More of a feeling. A feeling that everything is connected. Of feeling small beneath the stars. Of space.
The original painting is acrylic on canvas and measures 110 × 100 cm. Today, the motif is also available as a fine art print.
