LYS: An abstract painting inspired by the moment when light breaks through.
LYS: An abstract painting inspired by the moment when light breaks through.

Some paintings come together quite quickly. Others take time. LYS is one of those pieces that seemed to emerge almost on its own.

I stepped back after being completely immersed in the flow of painting. And there it was—finished.

I have always been fascinated by light in nature. Not necessarily the bright light of midday, but those moments when light breaks through.

When dark clouds begin to part, or when the sun suddenly reaches the landscape and transforms the atmosphere in an instant.

There is something about these moments that continually finds its way into my artwork. With LYS, I wanted to capture that feeling.

Not a specific place or a particular landscape, but the experience of light opening things up. A sense of hope, calm, and new possibilities.

As with many of my abstract paintings, nature is an important source of inspiration. The ocean, the sky, weather, and light often form the starting point, but along the way each painting develops its own story and expression.

The light tones and warm glow in this painting create a sense of calm, while the contrasts bring life and movement.

Perhaps that is why LYS has become one of the motifs I return to again and again.

To me, it is about focusing on what brings energy, hope, and faith in what lies ahead.

The original painting was created with acrylic on canvas, and the motif is also available as a fine art print in several sizes.

Perhaps it is this feeling of light and hope that makes LYS one of the works that still means so much to me.

If you would like to take a closer look at the fine art print, you can find it here.

Abstract art can be experienced differently from person to person. Feel free to leave a comment and share what you see or feel when you look at the painting. 💙
